Amity Rose (ASCAP)
San Francisco Bay Area
I am a tunesmith and song stylist based out of San Francisco with folk, rock, jazz and European cabaret influences. I have a New York City professional theater background, as a regional and Off-Broadway singing actor in the alternative musical theatre world, best known for developing and originating the role of Hannah in The Blue Flower over the course of ten years (HERE Space, NYC, Prospect Theater, NYC, American Rep Theater in Cambridge, MA and Second Stage, NY) and as a co-founder of the NYC-Boston art rock opera band Dagmar (2005-2011). I now write and play under the band and solo name of Amity Rose (2008 to the present), and collect/ play/write with vintage instruments, mostly of the 4 string variety, ukuleles and their 1920s and 1930s hybrids. My shows and debut self-release, What They Came For (Oct 2017, available on CD Baby, iTunes and Spotify) are eclectic and entertaining, spanning haunting narratives and silly odes. I lead/front with a naughty, sometimes tragic vintage comedienne flair. I love music because I am interested in epic beauty, the ridiculous to the sublime, the highs and the lows, all of it. The name "Amity" means peaceful relations among nations, and I hope that we can be friends and build artistic alliances. Peace out all you lonely hearts...
