2018 ASCAP EXPO

Much like the individuals who make up communities and societies, songs are borne of diverse backgrounds and genres and often end up living together or next to each other on radio, charts, soundtracks, etc. A successful song may be covered over and over, lending even more diversity by introducing songs to other communities. Songs can migrate to other countries to become adopted in different languages, and all are born with legal rights. The panelists in this session will offer a rights primer and discuss the basis for copyright in the US Constitution. They will also answer questions on a variety of legal matters pertaining to the current state of copyright law in America and around the world.
