Johntá Austin is a singer, songwriter, actor, & music executive for artist development and content. He began his career in television as an on air co-host for Turner Broadcasting’s “Feed Your Mind” from 1994-1997. Shortly after signing his first record deal with RCA Records in 1995, he began developing his interest in songwriting which he would continue to craft upon signing his first publishing deal with Chrysalis Music Publishing at the age of 15. His first top 5 hit on Billboard was “Sweet Lady” which was performed by blockbuster superstar Tyrese Gibson. Over the years his work with artists like Aaliyah, Chris Brown, Usher, Toni Braxton, Enrique Iglesias, Ciara, and Jessica Simpson has yielded over 10 number one hits on Billboard and 7 Grammy nominations.
His songs for Mariah Carey (“We Belong Together”) and Mary J. Blige (“Be Without You”) both received Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song in 2005 and 2006. He was named ASCAP’s Songwriter of the Year for both Pop and R&B in 2007. His song “We Belong Together” ties the record for most consecutive weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was named “Song of The Decade” and 11th “Greatest Song of All Time” by Billboard.
Austin has also expanded his work into television and film having written his first top 10 single on Billboard “Can’t Be Wasting My Time” for the Wayans Brothers soundtrack “Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood”. He is the current Supervising Music Producer for Lee Daniels’ “Star” on the Fox Network where he oversees all aspects of music for the show which has recently been renewed for a second season.
Johntá and his wife Porsche reside in Atlanta with their 2 children.
